Not all moths, different moths have different kinds of catapilla-like babies. Like brown house moths here lay little white weevil babies that get into your serial and silk the crap out of it if you don't keep it stored properly! (Honestly, never retched so much in my life as looking into that box of cereal. Little bastards look like maggots only they have legs) While other moths have lil green babies or lil brown babies or big green babies or big green babies

That was an informative lesson, Anne! I had thought moths just came from caterpillars, like butterflies do. Also, ick @ the cereal. I think we had an ant or two, and once a moth in there, but that was it. No babies (I hope, anyway)!

I think there is a difference between caterpillars and moth babies, which I think we call weevils even though there is apparently also a beetle called a weevil. I have very vague memories of being told they're definitely different, just like moths and butterflies are definitely different xD
Trust me you would have known if there were moth babies in it. The moths form a silk webbing in the box (I'm pretty sure its the moths. Usually I ignore my cereal long enough for the whole process to have taken place) that pretty much fuses the cereal into a single, hardened brick. Then when the weevils hatch, they end up all through the cereal, so even if you thought it was normal to have a cereal brick, you would see all the babies writhing around in there, while others would have fused onto the side of the container to begin the mothifying process (bearing in mind it is just this kind of house moth that does it, other moths just lay eggs outside or on leafs or, once, your toilet windowsill) x.x; It's all very unpleasant and has made me very paranoid about open cereal boxes. Even if its only been open about an hour, I will no longer touch improperly closed cereal packets xD

I think caterpillar is a catchall term for the larvae of all moths and butterflies. Inchworms are caterpillars called that because of the awesome way they walk.

And that's why once I open a cereal box, I put the cereal in a nice, airtight container where no moths will get 'em xDD
Still, Jimmy is really quite cute. Never saw inchworms in that light before xD

We have those but sometimes they still manage to get in! I've found folding over the top of the bag the cereal is in and putting a peg on it is way more affective xD

xDD The horror stories we post here are so incredible. I have little experiences with moths other than one popping up in my bathroom every once in a while. (mercifully without leaving its spawn sauce) Anyroad, I just meant I never realized that inch-worms actually turned into something, I dunno why. I very rarely eat cereal, so I have no rights to that conversation.
