Heh, so last Friday was International Day at our school! International Day is basically a school-wide activity where everyone dresses up in the traditional clothing of the country they're from (or another country, it doesn't really matter), and they get people's moms to make food from everywhere (so we've got British, Korean, Malaysian, American, Dutch) and lunch is free and you go around getting food from all these little stations and then there are performances and everyone goes home early. xD It's pretty cool. So each year there's a 'focus country', and this year it was Australia! I have pictures. Hm. I used the image host to resize them, and now they are a bit on the small side. xD But oh well. GIANT boomerang! It's in the middle of our lobby. Below it you can see the Australia station with Australia food and stuff. Giant Sydney Opera House made of wood and cloth. xD The welcome sign (also giant! xD) outside school. In front of it is the stage where all the performances were. And I'm standing in the back so you can see all the chairs and people and stuff too. (If you closely, you can see the Australian flag in the bottom right corner of the sign. It's kind of blocked by heads, though. And I don't know how to upload video, but I got one of everyone in the school doing the 'Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie!' 'Oy Oy Oy!' chant. xD And we have our token Australian teacher (one of the two that go to our school - and he's from Perth too!) being the MC. It was great.

I saw the title of the board and thought: 'What the hell? Australia day was in January' xD
OZZIE OZZIE OZZIE! *snort* xD That's very cool; it sounds like lots and lots of fun. What food did they have? Vegemite, pavlova, lamington...?

Jess, did I ever tell about the time I got in a fight with a Kiwi about where pavlova is from? I think I did...
But anyway, the festival looks awesome. *envyenvyenvy*

You did? Did you DEFEND MY HONOUR? That's actually one of the main points of rivalry between the two countries; who has claim on the Pavlova. I believe it was first made in Australia (in honour of the Ballerina, Anna Pavlova); however the dude who made it was born a Kiwi and may or may not have been immigrated to Aus by then. Personally I say they can suck it or get their expats outta muh country We had a couple of cultural days like that when I was in PS, usually in partnership with Harmony Day. I never really did give much attention to them.

Ahhhhh, I did that in middle school! Exciting. We didn't have focus countries though. Also, is your school a skyscraper? *pokes third picture*

This is why international school is fun; they do all the cool stuff like International Daty and Model UNs xDD Sounds like one heck of a good time, Mel ^^
Heh, I'm sure the NZers would say that 'you wouldn't have gotten it if it weren't for our original countryman' xP

Why do you always have to be on their side, Nick?

What's wrong with sticking up for the little guy? They're the small island to your continent But nah, I've been to Aus more often and I still love it more. Beats this island, at any rate

Woo; love it more xDD
I bet the kiwis have more liveable landmass then we do, less drought... cleaner sheep. But their stuff costs more and they don't sell my brand of chocolate milk, and that just goes too far.

We had lamington! I didn't know that was what it was called, though. >> And then these flaky pastry rolls with ground meat inside? Annnd... sugar cookies shaped like Australia. xDD And a couple other things but I wasn't really paying attention. Nah, it's not a skyscraper, it's just covered in... huge glass windows. That break all the time. It's fun because they're the type of window that you can see through from one side, but act as a mirror on the other, right? So if you're inside you can see all the people fixing their hair and stuff as they walk by. What did your school look like, Monkey? xD It's true! International school students have more fun! ... except for the whole no-cool-electives-or-sports thing.

Northville High School? The inside is just very large and looks like a shopping mall with very modern architecture. I've heard that it's pretty intimidating to kids visiting from older, less ridiculous schools.

"flaky pastry rolls with ground meat inside" - That made me and my mum laugh from the adorableness xD They're called Sausage Rolls... not that they have sausages in them usually.
One sided mirror glass is great xD

That's actually pretty cool. We actually use those at my dance studio, except it's not quite the same. It's equally reflective on both sides, so whichever side of the glass has the least light, is the side that can see through and spy on the other side. (sidesidesidesideside)
Even though I see indoor schools all the time in movies, it's really hard for me to imagine actually attending one.

I always forget what the deal with your school is, Sorie. Strange that you've only seen "normal schools" in movies. XD
