Time: Last Thursday, 11:30 AM.
I'm in English class, and of course it's lunch block, so many kids are in the cafeteria at the time, and others are scattered around the build. An announcement comes on saying that we're now in lockdown. So we head to the far corner of the room, shut off the lights, close the blinds and dull our conversations to a whisper. And we know it's not a drill, drills don't happen during the confusing time of lunch block.
So about 40 minutes later, the principal comes in and says it wasn't a drill, but it "wasn't anything serious". So we go back to our seats and of course the lunch schedule is thrown off and all classes for the rest of the day are disrupted.
Anyone care to guess that the something that wasn't serious was?
A bomb threat.
Yup, written on a boys bathroom stall.
Nothing serious.
They know who did it, no one was arrested or punished in any way.
Because it was obviously nothing serious.
Time: Today, 1:30 PM.
Sitting in chemistry, the same lockdown announcement comes on, and we all head over to the corner, same routine as before. Maybe 20 minutes later the principal comes in, asks to talk to our chem teacher. We sit in the dark, the teacher comes back in, and we have to sit in the dark for about another 10 minutes.
Released from lockdown about 5 minutes before the end of school bell, we find out it's another bomb scare, in the girls bathroom this time.
SO. New pros and cons to writing a bomb threat on the walls:
Pros: Get out of class with a lock down.
Cons: ...
There are NO consequences.
A bomb threat is a federal offense, I googled it!
I'd love to see any reason for SOMEONE to get arrested (the school has it's share of drugs, theft, vandalism and now bomb scares) for anything, but seriously, I can't take this.
I don't ant my school to get blown up, for the obvious reason that I don't wish to die, and I do have a lot of school pride, I'm too involved to let my hard work go to waste, but I'd love for there to be SOME sort of wake up call to our half-assing administration. Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't see bomb threats as an issue to take lightly.
I also know that I start WAY too many rant threads...I'm sorry. XD
