Give me one good reason why it's dorky to make phylogenetic trees for fun.

Hey, that was my first reaction too, Jess! I like the trees better than the old classification system, but I refuse to switch until they come up with a mnemonic device that includes sex so I can giggle like a twelve year old. >

Am I giggling?
I just love how elegantly they show evolutionary paths. Everything's so clear. A cladogram says that one thing evolved from another but the second thing seems younger than the first? No problem, they have a common ancestor you haven't found yet. I'm in loveeee. :>

Noooo. D: *stubbornly refuses to switch* I have so much of the Linnaean Taxonomy memorized... xD And Latin is cool. >> Although I must say, this new method does make a lot of sense. What was your mnemonic device, Monkey? We just had "King Phillip Came Over For Green Spaghetti".

xDD The one I was taught was King Philip, Come Out For Good Sex. My science teacher was great.

I believe Mel goes to a Christian international school so yours wouldn't be especially appropriate, Monkey xDDD

I feel so much less geeky than I used to... I had to go Google this. Is this compared to the old taxonomy method with the branchy things and Kings Play Chess on Fine Green Sand?

We'd get burned at stake! Monkey's /is/ much easier to remember, though. xDD Yeah Ice, that's the one. *loves her Latin names*

I'd just like to mention that this is the topic of my upcoming bio lab.

Lucky you, it's incredibly fun. Phylogenetic systematics has actually made me like biology. Well, evolutionary biology anyway. Like, I'm now considering a career in this stuff.
