I hate all the 'news' around here. New England, New York, New Hampshire etc.
It's like we weren't creative enough to make up our own stuff and other places would cry plagiarism if we just copied. o.0

XD If you had to work your butt off to survive, I'm sure you wouldn't be too concerned about creative names. 'Sides, it could have indicated different ethnic/regional groups back then.

Also, a lot of the states stole their names from Native-American tribes. For example: Massachusetts.
We Americans are just unoriginal.

Georgia was named after King George II, Virginia was named after Queen Elizabeth I ("The Virgin Queen"), North and South Carolina were named after King Charles, and Louisiana named after King Louis something of France. Further north, Maryland was named after someone, but I don't care to look up whom. I like that some states (like mine) got their names from Native Americans, it's one of the last symbols of the people we systematically destroyed. I don't mind being a bit unoriginal in our names because it shows our history.  |

I think a few of the towns or mountains around here were named after tribes as well. Mount Wachusett sounds Native-American-ish. XD
My town was discovered by this guy who named the town after himself, then after the Civil War, the townspeople decided that this guy who didn't die in the war was more important than the founder and renamed the town after him. XD

Everything here is basically Spain and their saints. =/
San Francisco, San Diego, Santa Rosa, San Fernando, Santa Clarita, Las Vegas, Santa Cruz, that place with the college Lauren was talking about; the list goes on.
