I live on Long Island, so I can't get a view unless I head off to Manhattan, which requires a 2hr train ride (definitely not driving there). I was going to see if my brother's place there had a view, but apparently it doesn't and he'd have been asleep by the time I arrived, and my mom didn't want me heading there alone to go to a better spot. Plus, you have to get there in the morning/early afternoon because the good viewing places crowd and the cops stop allowing entry early--the fireworks themselves were at 9.

As it turns out my brother's apartment building DID have a view, and I think he saw some of it from the roof! D: Durned guy.
So what are you all up to? Anne, do you get vacation at this time of year or is it switched for Aussies?

I do have a decent holiday, but only because I'm in Uni. The mid semester break started late May and I go back to school beginning August. Primary and High school kids do have a holiday right now but it's only two weeks. The longest holiday is always the Christmas Holiday.

Ah, okay. Makes sense, summer vacation would be the longest holiday (it is winter over there, right?).
Just got home from a picnic... we had a lot of leftover fruit from making fruit kabobs so now I have two pitchers full of blended fruit juice. So much fruit @_@

The fruit juice sounds really appealing, mmmmm.
I've started lessons to become scuba certified. (8 Kind of scary to be honest, but still sort of cool.

Scuba diving terrified me xD I can't even watch footage without having an anxiety attack! Is there much in your area to scuba around, Sorie?

Aww. Footage of scuba to me looks much more peaceful and quiet than it feels in real life. Living off the western coast of North America, yes, there are a number of spots I've been recommended in the two weeks of talking to people about it. The boat dive we're taking in the course will be near an island called Catalina, and supposedly the sights there are splendid just when you're snorkeling on the surface. I'm looking forward to it. ^^

I like being at the bottom of pools, looking up. That's a wonderfully serene experience to me, and I would totally learn to scuba just to sit at the bottom of pools. It's the addition of sea life and really deep deepness that freaks me out xD Sweet Well, if you ever come to australia, be sure to visit WA's Ningaloo reef. It's not as big as the Great Barrier, but it's better because less people have mucked with it. ~Plus we get whale sharks~

I agree. I loooove the look of things from underwater! Really deep deepness kind of freaks me out, too. The certification I'm earning is only to dive around 20m, but I'm not really itching to go further at this point.
Sharks. *_* I'll definitely keep that in mind as I attempt to make a career for myself.

that's awesome! Agreed with you two, the freaky sea life in the depths is a little scary. Two more weeks until orientation! Then med school starts. They already sent us our first set of lectures to watch D:

That's awesome, Ice! Forgive me if you've already said this before, but what sort of career are you hoping for when all this med school craziness is completed?

I hope so, too! My original goal was primary care, maybe with a private practice. With the current state of healthcare in America, it appears both of those are going extinct and increasingly less appealing (both financially and in terms of the level of frustration to deal with administrative business). We shall see! I'm always fascinated by articles I read about how people are improving the healthcare system (through analysis, diff methods of care, more community health related stuff, like education, etc.) so that's something I might look into as well.

Who would have thought there were so many options in medicine xDDD This reminded me of the convo we were having, Sorie.
